Resumo: Treatments of the leachate is one of the challenges in projects of sanitary landfill, once its quality is modified by waste characteristics, factors related with the disposal area, climatic conditions, and landfill age. The inflexibility of final disposal of solids waste and the large volume of produced leachate make the conventional treatments (biologic and physicschemistry) inadequate to reach one appropriated treatment. Therefore, the development of alternatives ways to treat the polluting load present in leachate in conformity with technical and economical municipal conditions is important. In this perspective, the municipal sanitary landfill of Guaratuba/PR has used one natural wetland area as a leachate post-treatments area, being one feasible alternative duo to its low costs and high capacity to decrease the polluting load of leachate. This thesis aims to evaluate the efficiency of natural wetland area as an area of leachate post-treatments. Samples field of leachate and plants were collected at sanitary landfill and reference site. For the leachate the samplings were taken monthly in between May of 2007 and April of 2008, the plants were sampled at all seasons. The Phytosociology was performed in the natural wetland area, and the identification, structural analysis, measurement of foliar tissues, and total chlorophyll contents were carried out for plants grown at natural and reference site. Physics-chemistry analyses of leachate and determinations of heavy metal contents of plants tissues and leachate were carried out. All physics-chemistry analyses of leachate were carried out according to methodology proposed by Standard Methods for Examination of water and wastewater. The plants presented at landfill area were Typha domingensis Pers., Hedychium coronarium J. König and Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst. ex A. Rich) Stapf,. The natural wetland area has demonstrated effective in the leachate posttreatment, presenting mean removal of 85% for BOD, 81% for COD, 83% for Amoniacal Nitrogen, 77% for Kjedahl Nitrogen, and 100 for Phosphate. In regard with the heavy metals results the leachate showed low concentration of Zn, and the plants showed concentrations of Zn within the limits for plants nutritional need. It was possible to conclude that the natural wetland area was efficient as a leachate post-treatment area, being one feasible alternative, and providing one example for other sanitary landfill, which should combine this technology with the conventional treatment.

As análises físico-químicas do chorume foram realizadas de acordo com as metodologias do Standart Methods for Examination of water and wastewater. As plantas presentes no sistema foram Typha domingensis Pers., Hedychium coronarium J. König e Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst. ex A. Rich.) Stapf.
