This study aimed at analyzing professionals’ experiences of a theater company in relation to their work and their strategies to face suffering and turn it into pleasure, based on the Psychodynamics of work, with regard to the relationship between professional identity and art, the organization of the work context and the subjective mobilization of workers. This is an exploratory descriptive study, developed with professionals at a theater company in Goiânia, Goiás. Its specific objectives were: 1) examine the experiences of the individuals at work, regarding to their professional identity and relationship with art, 2) analyze the experiences of theater workers about the organization, working conditions and, 3) examine the strategies of suffering coping used by theater workers. The techniques of data collection were documental analysis and semi-structured individual and group interviews, which were evaluated by graphical analysis of the speech. As for the experiences related to professional identity and art there is a feeling of pride, happiness in doing what it is loved and being always engaged in a creative process coming from that researched group. Towards the category related to organization in the work context, the data indicate that, despite being a professional theater company, there is not any formal employment contract, however there are informal rules. Working conditions are good; the participants work at a proper and cozy place. In the category subjective mobilization of workers, the data indicated that the experiences of pleasure are characterized by cohesion and team integration. The fact that they do what they love generates pleasure. However, the suffering experiences are related to the overload in performing the tasks, fear, insecurity and lack of recognition, autonomy, freedom and time. Problems attributed to lack of financial incentive, especially of public policies for the realization of the shows were also included in this study. To minimize their suffering, some participants react with tears or laughter, whereas others see in the discussion with the group a new way to look for employment alternatives. The group is always using creativity, developing strategies, uniting and seeking a consensus to get things done properly.
