Resumo: Liturgy and Charity: The Love of God Made Concrete in Fraternal and Solidary Love sought to understand the bond that exist between these two dimensions of the Church’s pastoral life and mission. The Liturgy is the source and summit from which all ecclesial action flows, constituting the highest expression of the Christian Paschal Mystery. Through liturgical celebrations — especially the Eucharist — the Church makes memorial of Christ’s Redemptive Sacrifice, the expression of His total self-giving to humanity and the full revelation of God’s Love. From it flows Charity, the grace of the Holy Spirit, the gift of the Father and the Son, which impels the faithful to the practice of justice and charity. Charity manifests the royal pastoral action of the Church, whose only power is service – the service that generates communion and unity. This service is expressed in the evangelical and preferential option for the poor, which is not exclusive but inclusive. It is the imitation of Christ’s kenotic process, who, through the mystery of the Incarnation, made Himself small, assuming our humanity, lying in the manger of Bethlehem, and redeeming it upon the Cross in the condition of a servant. Just as Christ made Himself small and served the little ones — reaching out to the poor, the sick, the possessed, and the marginalized — so too must be the charitable action of the Church and her disciples. This study endeavored to ground itself in biblical, patristic, Christological, and ecclesiological presuppositions. It is an interdisciplinary theme that aims to encompass the biblical, liturgical, sacramental, ecclesiological, pastoral, and spiritual dimensions of theology. This bond and relationship are rooted both in the Hebrew Passover of the Old Testament and in the Paschal Mystery of Christ in the New Testament, embracing the table fellowship and banquets of Jesus, as well as His encounters with Pharisees, publicans, sinners, the sick, and the poor. The Last Supper — together with the Washing of the Feet, the Eucharistic institution, and the new commandment of Love — constitutes the synthesis of all charitable action and the liturgical expression of the Church. We conclude that the authenticity of the Liturgy, as an act of worship pleasing to God — in adoring, loving, praising, and serving the Lord — has as its ultimate goal the transformation that the Holy Spirit brings about in the Christian, so that he or she may become the image of Christ in gestures and words: Charity itself, which is to love and serve one’s brothers and sisters, to practice justice, and to live in generosity, fraternity, and solidarity
