The present work sought, through a historical analysis, to reflect on the theme, mathematics and music, and how these are related, noting that both arise from the necessity ofcommunity life aselements of organization and culturalmanifestation. We have discussed how the emergence of musical scales took place, and how the mathe- maticians Pythagoras, D’Alembert, and others, were fundamental to the evolution of musical theory, aswell asmathematical concepts of fractions, sequencesandlogarithms, for example. We verified how much these two elements, mathematics and music, are important for diverse cultures in prominence for the indigenous people Xukuru of the Ororub ´a. Developing a practical activity of construction of a fife, with students of the third grade of the High School Reference School Senador Vitorino Freire, located in the city of Arcoverde in the hinterland of Pernambuco,it was possible to present to the students in a playful way, how music can be used to facilitate teaching/learning of the mathematics, obtaining a very significant result in relation to practice and theory.
