This research is focused on the analysis of A Política: Revista Combativa Illustrada, a magazine that was published once a week and then two times a month in Rio de Janeiro city during the years 1918 to 1922. The study aimed to focus on the characterization of the political debate in the magazine around the 1918 federal elections and the presidential elections of 1919 and 1922. A Política was created by the writer Coelho Netto and by João Rodrigues, from Maranhão State, and was motivated by the defeat of the first in the 1918 election, when he ran for Congress for his state, Maranhão. This fact triggered an intense campaign in the magazine for recognition of Coelho Netto in the Congress and against the legitimacy of the elections that year. In A Política, the writer switched the director position with João Rodrigues, to the exit of the first, in January 1919. The research shows that the magazine has remained a vehicle for the expression of ideas and interests of Coelho Netto, even after the official announcement of his departure, reflecting facts related to these elections and propagating issues related to the political crisis that would reach the 1920s
