Resumo: The present research presents as object of study the practice of literary reading of the classic tale “A cartomante” (The fortune teller), by Machado de Assis, adapted in comic strips, with 9th grade students of Elementary School II of a municipal public school in Cariacica, Espírito Santo. The guiding authors of this research were Antonio Candido (1995); Dermeval Saviani (1991); Mikhail Bakhtin (2006); Beth Brait (2005); Marisa Lajolo (2006); Regina Zilberman (1988); Ana Maria Machado (2002); and Maria Amélia Dalvi (2013). The questions that guide this study are: a) How and why to work on literary readings of classic works with students in an Elementary School II context? b) How can the teacher mediate the reading of literary classics with the adolescent public in a school environment? Thus, it is intended, through this investigation, to reflect on ways to introduce the reading of classic works in the final years of Elementary School II with the aid of adaptations in comics. The work is justified in view of the (a) students' supposed lack of interest in reading classic works at school; (b) difficulty found by teachers in carrying out literary reading in the classroom; (c) need to investigate the contributions of adaptations in comics as pedagogical resources to motivate reading in a school context. Thus, the theoreticalpractical methodology adopted in this work is based on non-conservative pedagogical conceptions aligned, mainly, with the historical-critical pedagogical perspective. The research was carried out in two stages: the first being of a bibliographical-documental nature, and the second, of a practical nature, consisting of a literary reading practice of Machado's short story “A Cartomante” (The Fortune Teller), adapted in comics with 9th grade students of Elementary School. The research results show the effective contribution of literary classics adapted in comics as an important pedagogical resource that the teacher can use to carry out literary reading at school, since teenagers take comics as attractive. Therefore, it is necessary to have a systematized reading work, organized and mediated by the teacher. Thus, we conclude our research by understanding that literary reading practices at school need to equip students to read the classics.

Os autores norteadores dessa pesquisa foram Antonio Candido (1995), Dermeval Saviani (1991), Mikhail Bakhtin (2006), Linda Hutcheon (2011), Beth Brait (2005), Marisa Lajolo (2006), Regina Zilberman (1988), Ana Maria Machado (2002) e Maria Amélia Dalvi (2013). As questões que norteiam este estudo são: a) Como e por que trabalhar a leitura literária de obras clássicas em contexto escolar com alunos do Ensino Fundamental II? b) Como o professor pode mediar a leitura de clássicos literários com o público adolescente em ambiente escolar? Dessa forma, pretende-se, por meio desta investigação, refletir sobre modos de introduzir a leitura de obras clássicas nos anos finais do Ensino Fundamental II com auxílio das adaptações em HQ. O trabalho justifica-se em face do (a): a) suposto desinteresse dos alunos em ler obras clássicas na escola; b) dificuldade encontrada pelos professores em realizar leitura literária em sala de aula; c) necessidade de investigar as contribuições das adaptações em HQ enquanto recursos pedagógicos de motivação de leitura em contexto escolar. Desse modo, a metodologia teórico-prática adotada neste trabalho pauta-se nas concepções pedagógicas não conservadoras alinhadas, principalmente, à perspectiva pedagógica histórico-crítica. A pesquisa foi realizada em duas etapas: a primeira, de caráter bibliográfico-documental, e a segunda, de caráter prático, consistindo numa prática de leitura literária do conto machadiano A Cartomante, adaptado em HQ com alunos do 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental. Os resultados da pesquisa evidenciam a efetiva contribuição dos clássicos literários adaptados em HQ como importante recurso pedagógico que o professor pode lançar mão para a realização da leitura literária na escola, visto que os adolescentes tomam as HQ como atrativo. Para tanto, faz-se necessário um trabalho de leitura sistematizado, organizado e mediado pelo professor.
