Belo Horizonte´s city government, already known in studies about its Participatory Budgeting, have innovated in the year of 2006, implementing a virtual version of that tool: the Digital Participatory Budgeting. The search for a improvement in the integration between the Public Administration, guardian of the will of the people and keeper of the res publica, and the citizens, genuine source of the State´s power, is a vastly studied theme nowadays. The influence of internet in this context cannot be forgotten, providing information in a fast and easy way on global level. The new information technologies have changed the relation among society and its representants. Therefore, this paper aims to describe how the Digital Participatory Budgeting works, show the resemblances and differences between the virtual and the regional ones, and to evaluate the validity of this tool as an alternative for citizen participation in Belo Horizonte. The study points to a great increase in participation because of the Digital Participatory Budgeting, but, meanwhile, shows some flaws in the voting system, which must be resolved for the sake of credibility and functionality of the process.
