Thus, this work was carried out with the purpose of evaluating the effects of different levels of shading, spectral quality of screens and spacing in the initial development of ‘Jungle Queen’ and ‘Jungle King’ gingers, and to analyze the influence of different gibberellic acid and carnauba wax concentrations in quality and postharvest longevity of ‘Red Ginger’. In the first experiment, rhizomes-seed were planted in 5 different environments (full sun, black screens with 30% and 50% shading, blue and red screens with 50% shading) and 2 spacing per plants (0.8 x 1.0 m and 0.8 x 1.5 m). Rhizomes-seed remained dormant from April to August, and the shooting of theses rhizomes began with the temperature increasing. The spacing did not influence the initial development of plants. Shading of 50%, associated with the black, blue or red screens, favored the initial development of ‘Jungle Queen’ and ‘Jungle King’ gingers. The second experiment consisted of pulsing for 24 hours in red ginger floral stems at concentrations 0, 5, 25, 50 and 100 mg L-1 of GA3, stored at temperature 18 ºC and 91% RH for 31 days. Concentration of 5 mg L-1 of GA3 prolonged the commercial durability, promoted lower changes in the soluble sugars levels in bracts and reduced peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase activities in bracts and in the base of floral stems. The third experiment tested the spraying of carnauba wax in the red ginger inflorescences at concentrations 0.0; 1.5; 3.0; 6.0; 9.0; 12.0 and 15.0 wax. It can be recommended for red ginger inflorescences spraying carnauba wax in concentrations up to 3%.O prolongamento na vida de vaso de flores cortadas relaciona-se a fatores pré e pós-colheita, sendo os de pré-colheita referentes ao estádio de maturação floral e às condições de cultivo, e os de pós-colheita atribuídos às condições de conservação. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos de diferentes níveis de sombreamento, qualidade espectral de malhas e espaçamentos no desenvolvimento inicial de alpínias ‘Jungle Queen’ e ‘Jungle King’; e analisar a influência de diferentes concentrações de ácido giberélico e cera de carnaúba na qualidade e longevidade pós-colheita de alpínia ‘Red Ginger’. No primeiro experimento, rizomas-semente foram plantados em 5 ambientes (pleno sol, malhas pretas 30% e 50%, malhas azul 50% e vermelha 50%) e 2 espaçamentos (0,8 x 1,0 m e 0,8 x 1,5 m). Os rizomas-semente entraram em dormência de abril a agosto, sendo que a brotação desses iniciou-se com o aumento da temperatura. O espaçamento não influenciou no desenvolvimento inicial das plantas. O sombreamento de 50%, associado às malhas preta, azul ou vermelha, favoreceu o desenvolvimento inicial de alpínia. O segundo experimento constituiu do pulsing de GA3 por 24 horas em hastes florais de alpínia, nas concentrações 0, 5, 25, 50 e 100 mg L-1, armazenadas em câmara fria a 18 ºC e UR de 91% por 31 dias. A concentração de 5 mg L-1 de GA3 prolongou a durabilidade comercial, promoveu menores alterações nos teores de açúcares solúveis totais em brácteas e reduziu a atividade peroxidásica e polifenoloxidásica em brácteas e base de hastes florais de alpínia. O terceiro experimento testou a pulverização de cera de carnaúba em inflorescências de alpínia, nas concentrações 0,0; 1,5; 3,0; 6,0; 9,0; 12,0 e 15,0% de cera.
