Resumo: This dissertation aims to analyze the representation of violence in the novel Lavoura Arcaica (1975), by Raduan Nassar and in the film adaptation by Luís Fernando Carvalho, LavourArcaica (2001). The methodology used was bibliographic. In this study, we first approached mimesis; we based ourselves mainly on the conception of Aristotle which emphasizes the possibility of art approaching reality. We sought to investigate how the relationship between literature and society is established. To do so, we used, among others, texts by Plato (2000), Aristotle (2008), Auerbach (2015), Candido (2010; 2014), in addition to critical approaches that deal with the influences of the 1970s on literary production, period when Nassar's novel was published; In this chapter, we concluded that Literature and social aspects are inseparable. Then, to point out how psychological and physical violence are configured, we searched in Bakhtin (2002; 2006), Foucault (1982; 1999; 2009), Bourdieu (2000; 2012), Chartier (1990), among others, for the arguments that they reinforce how one man overlaps another. Some of these positions were highlighted in the analysis of the novel, we also used some theoretical conceptions about memory since the character André uses it to expose how these types of violence occur within the family environment; In this chapter, we conclude that the composition of violence can take on different nuances, and can be represented by a subtle or more exacerbated practice, just as the corpus portray them. To understand how the film can represent aspects of reality in cinema, there were used the foundations proposed by Bazin (1991), Antonio Costa (2003), Martin (2005), Jean-Claude Bernardet (1980), among others. As for the adaptation process, the ideas of Robert Stam (2003), Linda Hutcheon (2013), Álvaro Hattnher (2013), Gentil Faria (2019), among others, were used. Finally, we have the analysis of violence in the film; as it is an adaptation that aimed to make the book loyal, we chose to turn our attention to scenes in which violence is emphatic. The study we undertook allowed us to observe and reflect on how literature and film adaptation can represent themes of reality.

A metodologia que utilizamos é de cunho bibliográfico. Neste estudo, primeiramente realizamos uma abordagem sobre a mímesis; baseamo-nos principalmente na concepção de Aristóteles que enfatiza a possibilidade de a arte se aproximar da realidade. Procuramos investigar como se estabelece a relação entre literatura e sociedade. Para tanto, recorremos, dentre outros, aos textos de Platão (2000), Aristóteles (2008), Auerbach (2015), Candido (2010;2014), além das abordagens críticas que tratam sobre as influências da década de 1970 na produção literária, período em que o romance de Nassar foi publicado. Em seguida, para pontuar como a violência psicológica e física se configuram, buscamos em Bakhtin (2002; 2006), Foucault (1982; 1999; 2009), Bourdieu (2000;2012), Chartier (1990), dentre outros, os argumentos que reforçam como ocorre sobreposição de um homem sobre o outro. Alguns destes posicionamentos foram destacados na análise do romance, utilizamos também algumas concepções teóricas sobre a memória uma vez que o personagem André faz uso dela para expor como ocorre os referidos tipos de violência dentro do ambiente familiar. Para entender como o filme pode representar aspectos da realidade, utilizamos os embasamentos propostos por Bazin (1991), Antonio Costa (2003), Martin (2005), Jean-Claude Bernardet (1980), entre outros. Quanto o processo da adaptação recorremos as ideias de Robert Stam (2003), Linda Hutcheon (2013), Álvaro Hattnher (2013), Gentil Faria (2019), dentre outros.
