Resumo: | This study investigated the process of CALL implementation to the curriculum of a private language institution. Our goal was to solve the problem of lack of the use of CALL and to identify the factors influencing CALL use. Seven language teachers and the researcher, who is a language teacher and the pedagogical coordinator, as well as one of the owners of the school, participated in this case study. The inquiry was processed through a cycle of planning-action-observationreflection(Richards & Lockhart, 1996). As the basis for this study, we used the studies developed in the area. These studies concerned researches on the implementation of CALL and its resources. The study was also based on the theories about the role of the teacher in process of learninga second language as a way to comprehend the role of the teacher in the use and implementation of CALL resources. The participants adopted CALL activities in their classes and this experience was recorded in personal diaries and discussed in some group meetings. Through thedata analyses, we verify that the teachers have some beliefs about the use of the computer in the pedagogical practice. Moreover, the participants identified five main factors influencing CALL use: 1. time; 2. curriculum; 3. resources; 4. computer literacy and 5. daily use of computer. These factors show the importance of the participation ofthe whole institution (management, coordination and teaching staff) in the process of CALL use. |
