The housing deficit is one of the main indicators for the development of public housing policies. The aim of this research is to explore the possibilities of dialogue between the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico) and the housing deficit in the context of the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region (RMBH). The methodology adapted by the Intituto Jones dos Santos Neves from the Fundação João Pinheiro model was used to quantitatively read the housing deficit between 2012 and 2021 in municipalities considered to have a “very high” and “high” level of integration (Belo Horizonte, Contagem, Betim, Esmeraldas, Ibirité, Nova Lima, Ribeirão das Neves, Sabará, Santa Luzia, and Vespasiano). The housing deficit data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and then mapped with the intention of analyzing which urban dynamics are present and their implications for the housing issue. The proposed work seeks to advance, as a theoretical methodological exercise, in the exploration of CadÚnico data and to evaluate whether the use of the database for intra-urban reading of the housing deficit offers potential for expansion to Metropolitan Regions, taking the RMBH as an empirical object.
