Resumo: The object of this work is to analyse the situation of Francisco de Assis Cintra (1897-1953) as a historian. The journalist, literary critic, philologist and teacher wrote several books on the history of Brazil, with a destructive, iconoclastic, controversial and Quixotic slant. Believing history was a guideline to life, he tried to reform it so that the real models to be followed would erupt from the obscurantism to which they were bound in the history of Brazil. Assis Cintra was excluded from the repertoire of the Brazilian historiography itself, albeit he has imprinted in it some memory. This work is intended to the understanding, identification and discussion of the place that has been occupied by the historian and the reason why for occupying this place in the Brazilian historiography scene

Acreditando ser a história mestra para a vida, buscava reformá-la para que os verdadeiros modelos a serem seguidos surgissem do obscurantismo a que estavam relegados na História do Brasil. Assis Cintra foi excluído do repertório da própria historiografia brasileira, ainda que deixando alguma memória.
