Resumo: The thesis analyzes the crisis of liberal democracy in the beginning of the 21st century and its impact on normative solutions for the protection of personal data as a possibility to safeguard democratic processes, especially when considering electoral disputes. A relevant effort is made in attempt to establish a dialogue between these spheres, outlining problems observed in contemporary democracies and the importance of privacy and protection of personal data guided by the idea of ​​informative self-determination as regulatory solution and corroborative mechanism (among several) for democratic strengthening in the digital age. Finally, it is a critical and reflective approach built on the problems relevant to democracy and also about requirement of regulation democratically oriented to the sectors of new technologies.
