Resumo: The purpose of this thesis is to outline an analysis of the uses of jewelry by the residents of the County of Rio das Velhas, Sabara current municipality of Minas Gerais, between the years 1735 and 1815. Search for notaries documents that demonstrate ownership and use of body adornment, and the choice of materials and the use of techniques have been read. These documents disclose not only left a taste for certain objects, but also some emotional ties occurring in that society, as a jewel that was intended for a relative, a friend or even a slave. Also religiosity was present in the choice of objects of daily use by members of a society have chosen to adorn and protect themselves at the same time. Also in this thesis, there was space to analyze some influences in art making as well as the transit envloveu the making , trade, choice and use of jewelry, gifts mestizo society in the ancient County of Rio das Velhas in the 18th century, a society of appearance.

Para a pesquisa foram lidos documentos cartorários que mostrassem a posse e o uso dos adornos corporais, bem como a escolha de materiais e o uso de técnicas. Tais documentos deixaram transparecer não só o gosto por determinados objetos, mas também alguns laços afetivos ocorridos naquela sociedade, como uma joia que foi destinada a um parente, a um amigo ou mesmo a um escravo. Também a religiosidade se fez presente na escolha dos objetos de uso cotidiano pela sociedade estudada.
