Resumo: This dissertation aims to decipher the possible representations of Brazil through its popular music. For that it is undertaken the analysis of songs, considering that they all had a grand exhibition in Brazilian radio stations. The lyrics are organized according to the top one hundred best songs placed in ranking of success in the period of 1956 until 2005. Once these representations are defined, the same ones will be confronted to the existing sociological theoretical set with the objective to identify possible points of convergence and divergence. To the end of the text it is expected that such analysis can not only supply a minimum representation of Brazil, as well as to show the form that social changes occurred throughout fifty years and how they had been registered in its songs.

Para tanto, empreende-se a análise de canções que tiveram considerável exibição em rádios de todo o País, elencadas entre as cem melhores colocadas em paradas de sucesso nos anos de 1956 a 2005. Delineadas tais representações, elas serão confrontadas ao arcabouço teórico sociológico existente com o objetivo de identificar possíveis pontos de convergência e de distanciamento.
