Resumo: | Temporary autonomous palaces; the materiality of the word; or public art; a wavering path; is the title of this master’s dissertation, centered around public art. a winding path that takes place as a practical-theoretical dive into the subject. i seek to conceptually delimit the theme and its most usual stage - the city. the research also includes the production of three artistic works: 18 liters (in movement), 18 liters (stationary), and temporary autonomous palaces; the materiality of the word - in them I transpose some of the theoretical concepts and ideals initially reviewed into practice, contrasting the text with the experience of making artistic works in the street and their inevitable repercussions - both public and personal. the textual production of the dissertation is also artistic work in itself, marked and defined by my particular writing style: entirely in the first person, with the exclusive use of lowercase letters, notably informal, fluctuating in rhythm and punctuation - sometimes sober, sometimes feverish. i dive into public art but, to some extent, i also dive into myself. i conclude that the instrumentalization of public art is not obligatory (although i argue that art is, first and foremost, a social product), and i seek to turn the focus of public art production in the city towards the individual and their experience, as opposed to the statues and monuments that present themselves as another presence in cities. |
