This dissertation studies Mário de Andrades (1893-1945) personal correspondence, an epistolomanic, according to principles of the contemporary biographical criticism and with basis on the concept of biografema, formulated by Roland Barthes, which allows us to read authors traces and their biographys in paratexts such as the epistolary one. Moreover it is proposed an investigation of the origins of the intimate writing practice and of the genres related to the personal trajectory, in the context of the rise of modern individualism, by the mid- 18th century in Europe. The conquest of the so-called self-narrations allows besides the production of the individual memory, plural and mutable in itself, the narration of the identity, which finally this study explores in a transdisciplinary and comparative perspective in Mários correspondence, who presents himself towards his countless interlocutors in multiple self-fashionings.
