Resumo: This dissertation aims to understand how three community leaders who work on the peripheries of Belo Horizonte, in their speeches, activate imaginaries (BACZKO, 1985) and construct assembling imaginaries that mobilize horizons of shared meanings (TORO E WERNECK, 2004). To this end, three case studies were carried out (MERRIAM, 1998) based on in-depth interviews, observations and analysis of publicly available materials. Using the articulation of elements that refer to the present, past and future of their communities, leaders call on their audiences to imagine other possibilities for life. The work points, in the end, to the centrality of imagination, which occurs in the present time, for processes of social mobilization.
