ABSTRACT: This study aims to analyze the transmodern poetics of Um defeito de cor, a novel by Ana Maria Gonçalves, to understand, from the perspective of transmodern analytics, how the postmodern structure of the text supports the decolonial project. In a way, there is a methodology of impertinence practiced in this endeavor, as it does not conform to a classical paradigm of studies that traditionally subalternize knowledge from former colonies. On the contrary, this research has selected knowledge produced by the zones of "non-being," as termed by Franz Fanon, with the intention of carrying out a decolonial shift in the epistemological framework. The aim here is to discuss and problematize the formal and thematic similarities, in relation to postmodern narratives, of Um defeito de cor, a work that is highly self-reflexive in its use of historiographies. It also seeks to demonstrate that such a stance is part of a decolonial effort to rethink Brazilian historical events based on the rewriting of history itself. Thus, the work will be read and analyzed primarily from the perspective of Ramón Grosfoguel's (2008) decoloniality and Enrique Dussel's (2016) transmodernity, in dialogue with Linda Hutcheon's (1991) studies on postmodern novels, which, according to her, correspond to the notion of the self-consciousness of the textuality of history. In this way, the analyzed novel is dedicated to telling the story of the character Kehinde, positioned at the margins of hegemonic discourse as an enslaved person. Through writing, the narrator-protagonist positions herself as a critical witness to the historical events of 18th century Brazil, particularly the Malê Revolt.
