Resumo: | The general aim of this study was to investigate how Maria Mariá's perception of teaching work was formed, based on her involvement with the National Campaign for Free Education (CNEG). She was born in the city of União dos Palmares and studied at the Escola Normal de Maceió during the 1930s and worked as a teacher during the 1940s. Her professional life was characterized by involvement with several projects and works that marked events in the History of Education in Alagoas. From the 1950s onwards, she also expressed herself in the local and national press denouncing teachers' working conditions. The specific objectives of the study were as follows: 1) To Identify the common characteristics of the interior, specifically of the society of União dos Palmares, as Professor Maria Mariá described them; 2) To situate Maria Mariá among those who dialogued with her; 3) To verify the information contained in Maria Mariá's publications, which reveal the condition of teaching labour in the city of União dos Palmares, in connection with the results of the CNEG in Alagoas. From the point of view of the analytical framework, the work took into account two perspectives: on the one hand, the categories of place, class and gender and, on the other hand, the theoretical basis of Italian indiciary history, which articulates micro and macro analytical approaches. It was qualitative documentary research, which was operationalized through the study of imagery, written, printed, iconographic and audiovisual sources, in physical and virtual archives. The research found some unknown results about her professional life, namely: 1) Maria Mariá’s travels; 2) personal letters she exchanged with students and colleagues; 3) testimonies from former students; 4) relationships established between her and other intellectuals from Alagoas, whether Catholic or political. These facts highlight the conditioning factors in the formation of Maria Mariá's ideas in the context of the CNEG's activities. Finally, the work states that one of the characteristics of Maria Mariá's trajectory is her denunciation of the precariousness of teaching work and her commitment to a project to improve teachers' working conditions, according to a project implemented in the city of União dos Palmares. This process reveals the contradictions in which Maria Mariá is immersed, both from the point of view of her career and the constitution of the teaching profession. |

This process reveals the contradictions in which Maria Mariá is immersed, both from the point of view of her career and the constitution of the teaching profession.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESO objetivo geral deste estudo foi investigar o modo como foi se construindo a percepção de docência da professora palmarina Maria Mariá, a ser ilustrada em seu envolvimento com a Campanha Nacional de Educandários Gratuitos (CNEG). A professora Maria Mariá de Castro Sarmento, natural da cidade de União dos Palmares (AL) e com ideias analisadas nesta pesquisa, foi estudante na Escola Normal de Maceió durante a década de 1930, e passou a exercer a docência na década de 1940, tornando-se conhecida nacionalmente pelo teor dos textos que passou a divulgar na imprensa alagoana a partir de 1950, evidenciando a participação na CNEG, por meio das denúncias feitas ao tratamento dado à docência por tal projeto educacional voltado à formação secundária da juventude desvalida interiorana. Nessa direção, os objetivos específicos voltaram-se a: 1) Identificar as características comuns na sociedade interiorana, especificamente palmarina, captadas pela professora Maria Mariá; 2) Situar a professora Maria Mariá entre os que com ela dialogaram em espaços públicos e privados, no interior e capitais; 3) Verificar as informações presentes nas publicações de Maria Mariá, que desvelam a condição do trabalho docente na localidade de União dos Palmares, em diálogo com os resultados da CNEG em Alagoas. Para tanto, foram consideradas três categorias de análise: 1) o lugar; 2) a classe; 3) o gênero. O referencial teórico da pesquisa, por sua vez, ancorou-se nos autores atrelados a micro-história italiana, tendo em vista a incursão pelas fontes e pela análise do material encontrado, em perspectiva indiciária, e procedimentos microanalíticos. Trata-se de uma pesquisa documental de caráter qualitativo, que foi operacionalizada a partir da garimpagem de fontes imagéticas, escritas, impressas, iconográficas, audiovisuais. Em arquivos físicos e virtuais. Foi possível localizar algumas informações ainda não exploradas sobre a vida profissional da personagem, a saber: 1) viagens feitas pela professora; 2) cartas pessoais por ela trocadas com estudantes e colegas de trabalho; 3) depoimentos de ex-alunos; 4) relações estabelecidas entre a personagem e outros intelectuais alagoanos, católicos ou políticos. Tudo permite perceber os determinantes da formação das ideias manifestadas pela professora ao analisar os resultados da CNEG. Notou-se, ao finalizar a investigação, que os marcadores que perpassam a trajetória de Maria Mariá lhe permitiram sensibilizar o olhar para a precarização do trabalho docente, em um projeto implantado em União dos Palmares com a sua colaboração, que pretendia beneficiar a população pobre interiorana.
