A aldeia Brejo dos Padres fica entre os municípios circunvizinhos de Tacaratu, Jatobá e Petrolândia, no sertão Pernambucano. Tem uma população de mais de oito mil pessoas e a maioria está entre as faixas etárias de 15 a 49 anos. O processo pelo qual os indivíduos constituem sua juventude é o cerne da nossa análise. Diante de transformações socioeconômicas vividas por esse grupo ao longo dos anos, a concepção do que é juventude foi sendo modificada a partir da visão dos indivíduos. Constatamos que os Pankararu dividem suas vidas em fases e que a juventude representa uma dessas fases. Nossa investigação antropológica é baseada na abordagem dos métodos qualitativos através de entrevistas, de observação participante na aldeia e de nossa participação no movimento de juventude UJP - União da Juventude Pankararu. Na nossa pesquisa, vamos analisar as juventudes Pankararu através de múltiplas ferramentas como, por exemplo, análise de ritual, observação, censo demográfico, a escola Pankararu e o acesso às tecnologias. Ao longo dos anos, ser jovem em Pankararu foi ganhando novos significados a partir também desses elementos.CAPESThe goal of this dissertation is to understand the meaning of youth by the perspective of different generations of native Pankararus in the Brejo dos Padres village. The Brejo dos Padres village is located near the municipalities of Tacaratu, Jatobá and Petrolândia, in the vast hinterland of Pernambuco. It has a population of over eight thousand inhabitants being most of them between the age of 15 to 49. The process in which the individuals pursue their youth is the core of our analysis. Given the social and economical changes lived by this group throughout the years, the idea of what youth is has been modified according to their own perception. We have stated that the Pankararus split their life cycles in phases and that youth is one of them. Our anthropologic investigation is based on the approach of qualitative methods through interviews, participant observation in the village as well as participation on their youth movement - the UJP - União da Juventude Pankararu (Pankararu Youth Union, in free translation). Our research aims to analyse the Pankararu youth through multiple tools - for instance, ritual analysis, observation, demographic census, the Pankararu school and their access to technology.
