Resumo: Young people, including adolescents, are being infected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and affected by the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in greater numbers than other groups of individuals. The social, economic and cultural characteristics of this special group require the implementation of preventive and clinical interventions. The goal of this study was to know the profile of HIV-infected adolescents in follow-up at The Pediatric Infectology Outpatient Clinic at the Santa Maria University Hospital, as well as to evaluate the degree of knowledge about their disease, adherence to treatment, and others, through the application of a questionnaire and medical records. Thirty-seven adolescents with HIV/AIDS were enrolled. The average age was 15.3 years, with 60% whites, 64.87% female, 59.4% orphans and more than a half in conditions of vulnerability or poverty. Adequate knowledge about the disease was observed in only 43.2% of the participants. The mode of transmission was vertical for almost all the adolescents. The reported adherence was 92%, but the HIV treatment success rate was lower (75.7%). Only 8% reported side effects attributed to HIV treatment. Sexual activity was prevalent in one fifth of the participants with more than 40% of these having started early, before the age of fifteen. Non-adherence was higher among older boys compared to adherents. The knowledge of the aspects raised in this study will be of great importance to promote actions that can qualify the assistance provided to this specific group of people.

As características sociais, econômicas e culturais dessa população impõem a realização de ações de intervenção preventiva e clínica de qualidade. O objetivo deste estudo descritivo foi o de conhecer o perfil dos adolescentes infectados pelo HIV em acompanhamento no ambulatório de Infectologia Pediátrica do HUSM, assim como avaliar o grau de conhecimento acerca de sua doença, adesão ao tratamento, entre outros, através da aplicação de questionário e consulta ao prontuário de atendimento. Foram analisados 37 adolescentes com HIV/AIDS em acompanhamento ambulatorial regular. A idade média dos entrevistados foi de 15,3 anos, sendo 60% da raça branca, 64,87% do sexo feminino, 59,4% órfãos e mais da metade em condição de vulnerabilidade ou pobreza. O conhecimento adequado em relação à doença foi observado em apenas 43,2% dos participantes. O modo de transmissão da maioria foi a via vertical. A adesão referida ao tratamento foi de 92%, porém a taxa de sucesso terapêutico foi menor (75,7%). Apenas 8% relataram efeitos colaterais atribuídos ao tratamento medicamentoso. A atividade sexual foi prevalente em um quinto dos pacientes, com mais de 40% destes tendo iniciado precocemente, antes dos 15 anos e todos relataram ter usado preservativo. A não aderência foi maior entre meninos mais velhos, na comparação com os aderentes. O conhecimento dos aspectos levantados neste estudo será de grande importância no sentido de contribuir para a promoção de ações que venham a qualificar o atendimento e acompanhamento desse grupo específico de pessoas.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências da SaúdePrograma de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da SaúdeUFSMBrasilCiências da SaúdeAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAIDS (Síndrome da Imunodeficiência Adquirida)HIV (Vírus da Imunodeficiência Humana)AdolescentesAdolescentCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDEPerfil dos adolescentes com HIV/AIDS atendidos no ambulatório de infectologia pediátrica do Hospital Universitário de Santa Maria - RSProfile of adolescents with HIV/AIDS in follow-up at the pediatric infectology outpacient clinic of Santa Maria University Hospitalinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisWeinmann, Angela Regina Macielhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/9151119377173425Valadão, Maria Clara da SilvaSantos, José Wellington Alves dosResener, Tânia DeniseVolcan, Bruna Lanza4000000000016006006006006006001c5aefd6-6508-4d33-80c5-ebfe9227f0ff728a65c4-bc99-4ee9-9612-13ecbbb9486eaabbb2bb-c06c-4aea-8bd5-f7b3af4e44579eec975d-64be-4b14-8295-4166382feb5fba384fa5-7677-4176-ad5e-b7f362e6907ereponame:Manancial - Repositório Digital da UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMCC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
