Cancer patients are submitted to invasive treatments that besides changing their routines can cause manifestations in the oral cavity possibly affecting the quality of life for themselves. There are few studies that analyze clinical data addressing the oral health status and self-perception of quality of life related to oral health in children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment, adjusted for socioeconomic factors.Objective: This study evaluated oral health related quality of life and associated factors of cancer patients.Methods: An epidemiological survey was conducted at University Hospital of Santa Maria for 6 months where all patients aged 3 to 21 years were invited to participate. A trained and calibrated examiner conducted the survey. A dental examination conducted provided information on the prevalence of dental caries, dental trauma and occlusion. Data about oral health related quality of life were collected through questionnaires age-specific (ECOHIS, CPQ 8-10 and CPQ 11-14 OHIP). And information about socioeconomic status was obtained through semi-structured questionnaire answered by the parents/guardians of the patients. Data were analyzed using multivariate regression model Poisson.Results: In ECOHIS and OHIP no significant difference was found between groups. In CPQ 8-10 statistical difference was found in total (RR 0:45, 95% CI 0.32 to 0.62) and CPQ 11-14 was also found in total (RR 1.37 95% 1.01 to 1, 85 IC).Conclusion: The quality of life in relation to the oral health of these patients can be changed when in treatment, positive or negative perception when compared to the control group varies with respect to age.
