Resumo: The thesis investigates how the daily practice of wine tourism contributes to the construction of a unique sense of place, with an emphasis on the sensory and poetic experiences of the tourist-traveler. Based on Yi-Fu Tuan’s (2015) premise, which defines place as a construction derived from experience and senses, the research explores the geographical engagement of the body in interaction with the culture, history, social relationships, and landscape of the Campanha Gaúcha region. MerleauPonty’s (1996) work guides the analysis of corporeality in experience, where the taste of wine, directly perceived through the senses—especially taste—connects the touristtraveler to the lived space of the wineries. Through touching the vines, smelling the wine, and tasting, the space transforms into an extension of the body, creating a place where existence manifests in a tangible and immediate way. The primary goal of this thesis is to understand how the daily practice of wine tourism induces a unique sense of place through the taste of wine, lived experience, landscape, and cultural identity. These elements contribute to the construction of the body and perception in the constitution of the world through the sensory experiences of tourists, which shape their perception of place. As secondary objectives, the thesis uses poetic narrative as a means of expression to capture the complexity of sensory and emotional experiences related to wine tourism. The poetic narrative not only describes events and observations but also conveys the sensations, emotions, and personal reflections that emerged during the research, enriching the understanding of the phenomenon by offering a subjective and intimate perspective that complements the objective analysis. Developing poetic descriptions that evoke emotions and feelings—especially concerning the taste of wine—helps readers connect emotionally with the tourists' experiences. Additionally, it evaluates how the landscape shapes tourists' perceptions in specific activities, such as grape harvesting and guided tours, and highlights the importance of tasting in shaping the tourist-traveler's perception of the geography through the taste of wine.
