Esse processo é denominado homogeneização biótica e é composta por três tipos de homogeneização (taxonômica, genética e funcional), sendo que, a homogeneização funcional é a mais preocupante do ponto de vista ecológico pois altera a diversidade funcional das comunidades ao aumentar a similaridade espacial do atributo funcional. Um exemplo de bioma que sofreu intensa perda de vegetação é a Mata Atlântica e, como consequência, grande parte da biodiversidade da região está ameaçada de extinção. O presente estudo fez parte do PELD CCM, cujo objetivo é avaliar como as mudanças na paisagem influenciam a biodiversidade, funções e serviços ecossistêmicos. Portanto, esta pesquisa visou: (I) avaliar como a cobertura florestal e o efeito de borda afetam diferencialmente a riqueza e especialização das comunidades de aves; (II) verificar se há correlação entre as espécies "vencedoras" e "perdedoras" do processo de homogeneização biótica e o fato dessas espécies serem especialistas ou generalistas de habitat; e (III) compreender quais são as características que as espécies apresentam em relação aos seus nichos tróficos, modos de forrageio e atributos funcionais capazes de explicar essa variação entre especialistas e generalistas. Nossas hipóteses são que a perda de cobertura florestal e o aumento do efeito de borda ocasionam uma perda da avifauna especializada que não é refletida adequadamente pela diminuição da riqueza, o que leva a uma mudança na estrutura funcional das comunidades de aves, por favorecer a permanência de espécies com atributos adaptados às perturbações. Utilizamos o dataset Atlantic Birds para calcular o SSI contabilizando o número de habitats em que determinada espécie está presente e, assim, organizando-as em um gradiente de generalistas para especialistas de habitat. Para calcular o CSI, utilizamos dados de monitoramento acústico passivo. Ademais, utilizamos o Avonet e a IUCN para obter informações sobre os atributos funcionais das espécies. Encontramos que o processo de homogeneização funcional está ocorrendo no Corredor Cantareira-Mantiqueira, com um aumento do CSI em direção ao interior da floresta e com o aumento da cobertura florestal, enquanto a riqueza estimada não apresentou relações significativas. Também encontramos correlações entre o SSI e a tendência populacional, com maior especialização indicando maior probabilidade de diminuição populacional. Os resultados relacionados aos atributos funcionais demonstraram que o processo de homogeneização não é aleatório, podendo levar a modificações na funcionalidade das comunidades. O achado é importante pois permite compreender melhor como as ações antrópicas afetam diferencialmente a avifauna especializada e generalista e quais são as possíveis consequências para as funções ecológicas prestadas pelo grupo, além de auxiliar a propor estratégias de mitigação dos efeitos das ações humanas na biodiversidade. Portanto, como o processo de homogeneização funcional está ocorrendo nas comunidades de aves do Corredor Cantareira-Mantiqueira há a necessidade de ações de conservação urgentes para evitar essa ameaça à biodiversidadeAbstract: Natural landscapes are being modified by human activities in several ecosystems and the diversity of avian species responds to these changes differentially; some species benefit from the newly created environments, while others become extinct or have their populations reduced. This process is called biotic homogenization and consists of three types of homogenization (taxonomic, genetic, and functional). Functional homogenization is of particular concern ecologically, as it alters the functional diversity of communities by increasing the spatial similarity of functional attributes. An example of a biome that has undergone significant vegetation loss is the Atlantic Forest, which has resulted in a large portion of the region's biodiversity being threatened with extinction. The present study was part of the PELD CCM, which aims to address how landscape changes influence biodiversity, ecosystem functions, and services. Contributing to the PELD, I intend to: Therefore, this research aimed to: (I) evaluate how forest cover and edge effects differentially affect the richness and specialization of bird communities; (II) verify if there is a correlation between "winning" and "losing" species in the biotic homogenization process and whether these species are habitat specialists or generalists; and (III) understand the characteristics that species present regarding their trophic niches, foraging modes, and functional attributes that can explain this variation between specialists and generalists. The hypotheses are that the loss of forest cover and increased edge effects lead to a loss of specialized avifauna that is not adequately reflected by the decrease in richness, resulting in a change in the functional structure of bird communities by favoring the persistence of species with traits well adapted to disturbances. We utilized the Atlantic Birds dataset to calculate the SSI by counting the number of habitats in which each species is present, thus organizing them on a gradient from habitat generalists to specialists. To calculate the CSI, we employed passive acoustic monitoring. Furthermore, we utilized the Avonet and IUCN datasets to acquire information regarding the functional traits of the species. We have found that the process of functional homogenization is occurring in this Atlantic Forest fragment, with an increase in the CSI towards the forest interior and with an increase in forest cover, whereas the estimated richness did not show significant result. We also observed a correlation between the mean SSI values and population trends, with higher specialization indicating a higher probability of population decline. Results related to functional traits demonstrated that the homogenization process is not random and may lead to modifications in the functionality of communities. These findings are important as they allow for a better understanding of how anthropic actions differentially affect specialized and generalist avifauna and what possible consequences there may be for the ecological functions provided by the group, in addition to assisting in proposing strategies to mitigate the effects of human actions on biodiversity.
