Three lytological types of basaltic rocks, identified as A, B and C are used on the compaction of the rockfill. Two of them B and C, are passible of fast disagregation, when submitted to normal weather conditions. The laboratory investigation was based on drained triaxial tests, on specimens of 3\" and 4\" in diameter under two different conditions of disagregation. The variable parameters considered in the investigation were: the relative density; the gradation; the confining pressure; the degree of saturation, and the disagregation condition. The test results analysis and its interpretation were compared with the actual bibliography. The following conclusions can be drawned from the test results: I. Increasing the relative density, the deviator stress increases and the axial and volumetric strains decrease at failure. II. The same tendency was obtained for materials with a better gradation. III. The same behaviour was observed for the samples of the weathered materials, but the variation with either gradation or relative densities were substantially smaller. IV. The confining pressure and the degree of saturation had opposite effects on the shear strength and axial and volumetric deformations at failure. V. The drop on the shear strength due to an increase in the degree of saturation, was smaller for higher levels of relative density, for the samples prepared with were sound materials. VI. Within the range of disagregation included on the investigations, it have been observed a drop of 10° in the friction angle for material C, and 5° for material B, due to disagregation. This difference is smaller, for higher levels of confining pressure. VII.
