Resumo em Inglês: The dissertation presented here results from a research which main objective was to understand the changes that occurred in the supply of street food in the city of São Paulo in the light of the studies in hospitality and commensality in the public space, focusing, as object of study, three significant points of Paulista Avenue, based on the municipal legislation promulgated in May 2014. This is a qualitative research based on bibliographic research, field observation, as well as semi-structured interviews with diverse subjects. The results indicate that the option of eating in the street is no longer marginal and has come to be considered a leisure option for many. Varied options of food and the possibility of enjoying the public space with tables and chairs available allow the meal to be shared and tightens the social, which results in the occurrence of commensality in the street, representing new possibilities of sociability. It is important that in order for the habit of eating in the street, occupying public spaces to consolidate, it would be necessary to maintain public policies in this sense. To this end, the existence of the Legislation favoured at a certain moment, the growth of the activity. However, it was verified that the change of management ended up representing instability for those who work in the segment by the cancellation of operating license, as it happened in the fairs of Avenida Paulista, causing uncertainties about the process that was believed to be installed.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, baseada na pesquisa bibliográfica, observação de campo, além de entrevistas semiestruturadas com sujeitos diversos. Os resultados apontam que a opção do comer na rua deixou de ter um caráter marginal e passou a ser considerada, inclusive, uma opção de lazer para muitos. Opções variadas de comida e possibilidade de desfrutar do espaço público com mesas e cadeiras disponíveis permitem que se compartilhe a refeição e estreitem-se os laços, o que resulta na ocorrência da comensalidade na rua, representando novas possibilidades de sociabilidade. Conclui-se que para que o hábito de comer na rua, ocupando os espaços públicos, se consolide, é necessária a manutenção das políticas públicas nesse sentido. Para tanto, a existência da Legislação favoreceu num certo momento, o crescimento da atividade.
