This study looks at partnership relationships with an emphasis on inter-organizational relationships between an international conservationist NGO (The Nature Conservancy) and Brazilian NGOs (Partners) that work for the conservation of the Atlantic Forest. The main objective of the study was to investigate the complementarity of interests in partnership relationships between the financing organization and the organization being financed, in generating the expected results for the partners. The relevant literature studied highlights a set of attributes and characteristics that should be present in this type of relationship so that the organizations can develop and reach satisfactory results. An analysis of relevant literature on relationship management was carried out based on the conceptual model developed by Mohr and Speakman, which looks at the factors associated with complementarity of interests. The result of the study generates a perception that, although the relationship between TNC and Brazilian NGOs has been harmonious, tending towards a cooperative and collaborative model, a challenge still lies ahead for these organizations so that they can reach the partnership relationship proposed by the model used in this study. The analysis also showed that there is a clear perception of the main principles that should govern a partnership relationship but that these, many times, are inhibited by the policies and procedures of the organization financing the projects.
