This paper is about the role of Pastoral of the Child newspaper as a popularalternative communication instrument to assist the social practices of Pastoral of the Child Archdiocese communitarian leaderships, in the city of Aparecida. The main objective is to understand the treatment that the entity has given to their communication and the contribution that the newspaper, an important communication tool from Pastoral of the Child, has been offering for the entity mission promotion and for the communities´ citizenship construction. This study is based on the social movements theory, popularalternative communication and citizenship and uses thoughts from authors specialized on those subjects. The methodology, of qualitative nature, is based on bibliographical and documental researches and halfstructured interviews with five members of the National Coordination of the Pastoral of the Child, one coordinator from the Archdiocese, fifteen parochial coordinators from the Pastoral of the Child, at the Archdiocese in Aparecida. The research reveals, among other matters, that the newspaper is seen as a proper popularalternative communication instrument of the XXI century social movements and that the communitarian leaderships have a fundamental role in the good use of the material, which consequently promotes or not citizenship.
