The objective of this historical educational study was to present the process of creation, development and political consolidation of the Union of Public Employees of Diadema (SINDEMA), especially in terms of the assumptions and educational political positions registered in the sphere of this important municipality of the so-called ABCD of São Paulo. The research methodology was based on a survey of bibliographic sources, involving the consultation and systematization of articles, monographs, dissertations, theses and books and book chapters, with the consultation of data made available by the portals of the Brasil Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Google Scholar, the Periodical Portal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and the collections of the digital libraries of some Brazilian universities. Interviews were also carried out and testimonies were collected from participants in the life of this entity, seeking to locate and analyze their positions with regard to the defense of public schools, the consolidation of the teaching profession, asking how they contributed to professionalization, the appreciation of teachers and education at the local level. The research carried out allowed us to know some aspects of the emergence and history of this union, understanding its importance for the fight, not only of public servants in general, but, specifically, of the conditions faced by education workers in the city of Diadema (SP). This fight is recognized as very important nowadays, as well as throughout the history of SINDEMA.
