Resumo: Introduction: Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) frequently present reduced capacity to perform activities of daily living (ADL). However, the tests usually aplicable to assess functional capacity can not represent the true functional level in these patients because they provide only one task, i.e., walking. In this context, the short version: Continuous-Scale Physical Functional Performance test (PFP-10) consists of a tool of evaluation for ADL, which might be useful for assessing this population. Objectives: The objective of this study was to test the reproducibility of PFP-10 in patients with COPD. Method: Twenty-eight patients with COPD, clinically stable, and nine control subjects. All subjects performed anthropometric and spirometric evaluations to characterize the samples. COPD group also performed assessment of dyspnea by Modified Medical Research Council, and six-minute walking test to classify the severity of COPD by BODE index. In addition, patients responded London Chest Activity of Daily Living (LCADL) questionnaire. All subjects performed two PFP-10 tests in two different days, at the same period of the day. Results: It was observed a high reliability in PFP-10 between test and retest, with intraclass correlation coeficient (ICC) from 0.82 to 0.99 for COPD group, and from 0.73 to 0.99 for control group (p ??? 0.05 for all tasks). The total time to perform PFP-10 in two different days showed excelent reproducibilty (ICC: 0.98; p ??? 0.05). In COPD group, it was observed a moderate negative correlation between total time to perform PFP-10 and six-minute walking test (r = - 0.44, p = 0.02), and a tendency to significance for PFP-10 and total score of LCADL questionnaire (r = 0.37; p = 0.06). In addition, patients with COPD showed lower capacity during execution of the most tasks evaluated by PFP-10 than control group. Conclusion: PFP-10 is a highly reproducible test and a valid instrument to assess patients with COPD. Comparing to control group, this test was able to determine lower functional performance in patients with COPD during activities of daily living.

Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-22T17:20:24Z (GMT).
