Resumo: The present research work has analyzed and discussed the works of art with images of children from Candido Portinari and his political participation through art. His artistic production constituted our study object, by which we aimed to answer the following questions: How many Portinari artworks have images of children? On which year and decade did he most produced? Which topics were covered? What is the relation between these images and the education of the time? Since he painted children, is it possible to say that Portinari was an educator? Why? This study has collected data from bibliographic and field research, using primary and secondary sources. We analyzed the children role in the world: its??? presence on art, education and social means; then we followed this same track through Brazil; and finally, we got to the life of this artist, presented by means of a historical contextualization of the political and educational scenery, from the First Republic to the end of the New Republic. His artistic production was studied from ten works: Maria Jord??o Arruda e sua filha (1926), Arthur Bernardes de Souza Filho (1960), Cabe??a de crian??a (1955), Nossa Senhora do Carmo (1944), Crian??as brincando no p??tio da escola (1933), Grupo de alunos (1945), Despejados (1934), Mulher ajoelhada com filho morto (1955), Festa em Brodowski (1933) e Menino dormindo (1960). A study of the contradictions and possibilities of the presence of children on Portinari???s work was carried out, highlighting the following analysis issues: 1st: the professional identity of the artist; 2nd: his political engagement; 3rd: his conscience of class; 4th: His freedom of creation. Finally, we sought to answer if Portinari is an educator and why. We proved our research hypothesis: Portinari regarded children better than national development policy???s educational system ideologies. He proved that by his political, technical, and especially artistic compromise. For that, he is an educator.

Al pintar los ni??os, ??se puede preguntar si Portinari fue un educador? ??Por qu??? Este estudio recoge datos de investigaci??n de literatura y de campo, haciendo uso de fuentes primarias y secundarias. Fue analizado el ni??o en el mundo: su presencia en el arte, en la educaci??n y en el social; en seguida hicimos el mismo trayecto en Brasil y finalmente llegamos a la vida de este artista, presentando por medio del contexto hist??rico, el contexto pol??tico-educativo, desde la Primera Rep??blica hasta el final de la Nueva Rep??blica. Fue llevado a cabo un estudio de las contradicciones y posibilidades de la presencia del ni??o en las obras de Portinari, destacando los siguientes aspectos anal??ticos: 1?? problema: La identidad profesional del artista; 2?? problema: Su compromiso pol??tico; 3?? problema: Su conciencia de clase; 4?? problema: Su libertad creativa. Por ??ltimo, hemos tratado de responder en las consideraciones finales se Portinari es un educador y por qu??. Comprobamos nuestra hip??tesis de investigaci??n: Portinari vio al ni??o mejor que las ideolog??as del sistema educativo, de la pol??tica nacional de desarrollo. Probado eso por su compromiso pol??tico, t??cnico y, sobre todo, art??stico. Este estudo colheu dados a partir da pesquisa bibliogr??fica e de campo, utilizando-se de fontes prim??rias e secund??rias. Foi analisada a crian??a no mundo: sua presen??a na arte, na educa????o e no social; em seguida fizemos esse mesmo percurso pelo Brasil e finalmente chegamos ?? vida desse artista, apresentando por meio de contextualiza????o hist??rica, do cen??rio pol??tico-educacional, da Primeira Rep??blica ao final da Nova Rep??blica. Realizou-se um estudo acerca das contradi????es e possibilidades da presen??a da crian??a nas obras de Portinari, destacando os seguintes problemas de an??lise: 1?? problema: A identidade profissional do artista; 2?? problema: Seu engajamento pol??tico; 3?? problema: Sua consci??ncia de classe; 4?? problema: Sua liberdade de cria????o. Por fim, buscou-se nas considera????es finais responder se Portinari ?? um educador e por qu??. Comprovamos nossa hip??tese de pesquisa: Portinari enxergou a crian??a melhor do que as ideologias do sistema de ensino, da pol??tica nacional-desenvolvimentista. Comprovou isso pelo seu compromisso pol??tico, t??cnico e, sobretudo, art??stico.
