Resumo: Primary headaches are those that occur without a demonstrable etiology by the usual clinical or laboratory tests. The main ones are migraine, also known as migranea, tension headache and cluster headache. This review investigated the effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy in primary headaches, and follows the recommendations of the Cochrane Manual for Systematic Intervention Reviews and the PRISMA statement and is registered on the PROSPERO platform. The bibliographic search was performed through electronic search (MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, LILACS, PEDro, PsycInfo (via APA), Clinicaltrials.gov. And WHO / ICTRP) without restriction of data and language. Gray literature was also examined via OpenGrey. Five randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in which the interventions were photobiomodulation compared to Sham PBMT treatment and other types of treatment, and assessed pain intensity, frequency and duration of headache episodes. The results and the low certainty of the evidence found are insufficient to infer about the efficacy and safety of photobiomodulation therapy, requiring high quality randomized clinical trials to increase confidence in the estimated effects.

As principais são a enxaqueca, também conhecida como migranea, cefaleia tensional e cefaleia em salvas. Esta revisão investigou a eficácia da terapia de fotobiomodulação em cefaleias primárias, e segue as recomendações do Manual Cochrane para Revisões Sistemáticas de Intervenções e a declaração PRISMA e está registrado na plataforma PROSPERO. A pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada por meio de busca eletrônica (MEDLINE, Embase, Biblioteca Cochrane, LILACS, PEDro, PsycInfo (via APA), Clinicaltrials.gov. e WHO / ICTRP) sem restrição de dados e linguagem. A literatura cinzenta também foi examinada via OpenGrey. Foram incluídos cinco ensaios clínicos randomizados (ECRs) em que as intervenções foram fotobiomodulação em comparação com tratamento Sham PBMT e outros tipos de tratamento, e tiveram como avaliação a intensidade da dor, frequência e duração dos episódios de cefaleia.
