Resumo: This research aims to study the professional identity of the mechanic course teachers of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Piau?? (IFPI). This research is guided by the following question: What sociopolitical and educational configurations, in the form of public policies, contextualize the academic-professional trajectory of teachers, in different historical moments, and which were effected in the Institution and reflected, in particular, in the constitution of professional identity of the Mechanic course teachers? In order to answer this question, the general objective was drawn: to understand how the identity and professionalism of the Mechanic course teachers from IFPI are constituted, in the three moments of institutional configuration ETFPI, CEFET-PI and IFPI. To achieve this goal, the following specific objectives were outlined: describe the public policies related to Professional Education, at these historical moments; characterize the training and the professional and academic trajectory of the teachers, from the configuration of the ETFPI to the present moment. Therefore, this research, with a qualitative approach, involves the study of the constitution of the professional identity, in an institution, through the life history of four teachers. The analysis is based, besides the legislation pertinent to Professional Education, in documentary analysis and studies in the perspective of Adorno & Horkheimer's Critical Theory; in the notions of identity and professionalism of Dubar and N??voa, among others. Despite the contradictions that can be identified in the policy proposals and in the practices they carry out throughout the history of teacher education, in professional education, the analyzes reveal the commitment of the IFPI Mechanics professors to teaching, showing that professional achievement derives from being and being in the profession. The search for continuing education reveals the value and importance that these teachers attribute to pedagogical training in the construction of their identity and teaching professionalism.

Nortea este estudio, la siguiente cuesti??n: ??Qu?? configuraciones sociopol??ticas y educacionales, en forma de pol??ticas p??blicas, contextualizan (ron) la trayectoria acad??mico-profesional, en diferentes momentos hist??ricos y, que se efectivizaron en la Instituci??n e incidieron, en especial, en la constituci??n de la identidad profesional de los profesores del curso de Mec??nica? En b??squeda de respuestas para esta cuesti??n, se traz?? el objetivo general: comprender c??mo se constituye la identidad y la profesionalidad docente de los profesores del curso de Mec??nica del IFPI, en los tres momentos de configuraci??n institucional ETFPI, CEFET-PI e IFPI. Para el alcance de ese objetivo, se delinearon los siguientes objetivos espec??ficos: describir las pol??ticas p??blicas relativas a la Educaci??n Profesional, en esos momentos hist??ricos; caracterizar la formaci??n y la trayectoria profesional y acad??mica de los profesores, desde la configuraci??n de la ETFPI hasta el presente momento. Para esto, esta investigaci??n posee un abordaje cualitativo, envolviendo el estudio de la constituci??n de la identidad profesional, en una instituci??n, por medio de la historia de vida de cuatro docentes. El an??lisis se fundamenta, adem??s de la legislaci??n pertinente a la Educaci??n Profesional, en an??lisis documental y estudios en la perspectiva de la Teor??a Cr??tica de Adorno & Horkheimer; en las nociones de identidad y profesionalidad de Dubar y N??voa, entre otros.
