The work aims to extend understanding, Social Service, the demands that are presented to the bereaved families to resort to programs and benefits of Social Welfare Policy. This is a theoretical analysis, based on a materialist and dialectical perspective. From this point of view, the family thinks in concrete terms, not mystified by concepts that imprison, but changing and constantly redefined by changes in the production system, the capital / labor contradiction. At the same time, retrieves the analysis of mourning in contemporary times, as experience not just the individual pain, but social loss of family ties, concluded in ceremonial space, according to representations, specific uses and customs. The research reveals how households cope with the violation of the protection of related rights and fight the consequences of death not only in emotional expression, but fundamentally material. The difficulties begin when the grief of burying a family, on the high cost of inputs for funeral celebrations. The pain of death is accentuated by the lack of resources and the need to appeal for money to guarantee a dignified burial. Families refuse to access the municipal benefit geared to this purpose, because it gives them the condition of unworthiness. The standardization of the funeral market limits the possibilities for choosing the families regarding funeral: the preference of the place of burial; the place of the funeral, or the extension thereof, the cost of a price that many cannot afford. Thus, the mortuary culture - in all its diversity - it reduces the determinations of the market. The time of death intensifies the injustices faced daily with families who suffer lack of access to Social Policy. In the context marked by familista designing public policies, the importance of the family rises. Before death, the burden of family functions is emphasized. The mourning women is lived with more overhead on a reality marked by gender inequality, responsible for putting them in the role of protecting the grief of children and / or husband to the detriment of themselves. The loss is even more difficult when the cause of death - in this death certificate - is challenged by families and when proper explanation is not guaranteed by the State. Research shows that mourning materializes in terms of social issues, to the extent that death triggers experiences related to truancy; the occupation of property; the outbreak or psychiatric violations of sexual and reproductive rights. Faced with the reality of the interdict death and mourning in contemporary society, research shows some potential misuse of pain experienced by families and concludes that their strategies to escape from loneliness and isolation during this experience are not always successful
