This research was qualitative, aimed at analyzing individual / group relationship and the size of the meanings of artistic and musical practices, with emphasis on social participation of older men in Active Life Project. This project began in 2005, at the State University of Southwest Bahia ‒ UESB on campus in Vitória da Conquista (research locus) and currently serves an audience of 150 elderly people per year, with an average of 29 % of these are male. The male representation in the group draws our attention because, according to our observations, there is great resistance to the participation of men in projects of this nature. Grounded in assumptions of ethnography study took as supporting the theoretical framework of interpretative anthropology of Geertz, and based on the methodology presented by the author to establish the practical work: participant observation, interviews and selection of the main actors. From the reading of documents, we define the core meaning and sense units, mapping the fields and disagreements. In the composition of the survey highlight the innovative and interdisciplinary theoretical studies Bosi, Sacks, Sennett, Elijah Kisnerman, Morin and contributing to the growing dialogue between the social sciences, anthropology, art and social leadership. The findings lead us to understand that the involvement of these elderly people with artistic / cultural activities in a group that identifies them as highly relevant actors and protagonists of their stories, open spaces and opportunities for different expressions of social participation, and shows us how these constructed spaces contribute significantly to the welfare and quality of life in aging that often lacks legitimacy and place in the set of actions that give life and meaning to the world
