In order to contribute to the discussion on the challenges and strategies to increase women's access to justice, focusing on low-income women living in marginalized and peripheral areas of São Paulo, this empirical research articulated two pillars of research, related to the Protection of Women's Rights in the Multilevel Legal System and to the theoretical and legal frameworks of access to justice. In a first pillar, was investigated the role played by certain institutions that can support the expansion of access to justice by this group. Within the scope of Public Power, were analysed the extra-procedural actions developed by the Public Prosecutor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence (PJEVD) and by the Special Nucleus for the Defense of Women's Rights (Nudem) in order to increase awareness and effectiveness of access to rights. Within the scope of civil society organizations, some initiatives and / or institutions that claim to be responsible for female empowerment projects have been mapped to understand how these nongovernmental agents are supporting women in understanding and exercising access to justice in practice. In a second pillar, referring to the perception of these women in relation to Law and Justice, 16 low-income women were interviewed to identify their knowledge, trust and experience of access to justice. Finally, all the data collected were analyzed, identifying strategies to be prioritized to advance a public policy for women's access to justice
