Resumo: | The act of collecting is an ancient activity between human beings and still remains intriguing: why do we collect? Can we see in the act of collecting a process of creation? How collections communicate? This thesis aim to investigate the creative and communication process and the logic that moves and permeates the various types of collections, identifying its capacity of production. The methodology is based on two phases, which resulted in the two chapters of the dissertation. The first one is about the context of collecting in historical standards, developed through research on books, theses and papers that present discussion of issues such as hoarding, object of desire, imagination, memory, emotion, consumption and creation. The objective is to present different approaches to the concept of collection, from the ideas of several authors. The principal author is Philipp Blom, who builds the story of collections in his book "To Have and Hold". The reflections are also supported in Walter Benjamin, who discusses the preservation of history through objects and also on the ressignification of these, and Jean Baudrillard, who devotes a chapter of his book "The System of Objects" to the collections, which describes the difference between accumulation and collection and also mentions the conquest of death through the possession of objects. Finally, the research of the professor of the University of Utah and consumption expert, Russell Belk, and the writings of the Professor of the University of Leicester and chairman of the Museums Association, Susan Pearce, who interpret and fall collections in the current consumer society are being used. The second part of the dissertation focuses on the relationship between creative process and the building of collections, in order to analyze the collections as a communication tool. One of the authors used is Cecilia Salles, who develops a concept of the creative process as a network in constant transformation. This phase is also based on empirical data collection, result of interviews with collectors in order to demonstrate the various creative processes for assembling and maintaining collections. As a result, we conclude that the act of collecting can be seen as a creation process from when the collector selects items, since not every object may be part of your collection. In a second step, each collector organizes the items from the collection in a unique way, regardless whether or not to present it to others. This ordinance is revisited each time a new piece is inserted, when space is modified or even on other occasions. Finally, there are many collectors who expose their collections, whether at home, at specific events or on the Internet, thus generating, social networks that contribute to the memory of the collections and to affirm the identity of the collectors |
