The relationship between gender and the condition of social vulnerability and poverty has been identified as one of the main points of attention on the agenda for building more equitable social relationships (ONU, 2018). Currently, more than 80 million Brazilians are looking for access to some type of social assistance program, project or service that makes up the National Social Assistance Policy (PNAS), with more than half of these people being women (MDS; SENARC, 2014). This data reflect a complex structural panorama that influences the construction of subjectivities and collectivities in the relations between the dominant and subordinate classes. Starting from the articulation between Ciampa's (1987) theory of Identity, the feminist theories of Butler (1990), Beauvoir (2009), Braidotti (2002) and Davis (2018) and Yasbeck's (1993) theories about social policies and subordinate classes, this work seeks to understand how the identity process of women who live in a context of social vulnerability occurs and are served by Brazilian Social Assistance Policies and how these dimensions are built dialectically in a violent context of exploitation. These movements will be observed based on the life history of former users of the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS), under which the processes of metamorphosis of identities and manifestation of characters are identified, as proposed by Ciampa (1987). The considerations of this work contemplate reflections on the role of the State in the definition of emancipatory or alienating identity policies and how these policies are linked to the maintenance of social inequalities
