Resumo: The aim of this study is to focus on the study of life expectancy, the social conflicts and contradictions originated from racism and socio-spatial segregation experienced by the black population in the city of São Paulo, especially the young black college students from private institutions who live on the outskirts. The city of São Paulo presents itself divided in two areas in schematic form, the one that consists eminently of white individuals, it is located in the southwestern part of the city and it develops a role of dynamic socioeconomic center. Around this center, the population consists mostly of poor black individuals. From this social urban division, it is possible to notice a matter of race and social class, the production of the other and different one, this is the aim of this research. Students from private universities amplify their racial awareness or look for graduation only for an economic perspective, who are these young people and what are their expectations, conflicts and difficulties, is the university inclusive or only a place for the white, does the university represent this division of the city of São Paulo, those are some of the questions that guide this study. The importance of his investigation relies on the fact that there has been a significant increase of black people at Brazilian universities for the past fifteen years through various public policies, what, probably, produces a generation of young black people that understand better their apace of struggle. The methodology of research focuses on four non structured interviews and a sample composed of 225 questionnaires applied to black college students from private institutions (two in particular is communities, the PUC-SP and Fundação Cásper Líbero) in the city of São Paulo. The universities are separated in two types, the popular ones that are positioned as commodities and charge more affordable tuitions and the elitist ones charge higher tuitions. The data analysis allowed us, among other things, to describe a sample of profile, compare data and information among the students of both kinds of institutions and the participant and non-participant students of social movements, besides crossing information to the ones obtained in the non-structured interviews. Synthetically, the students recognize they have experienced racism, but they feel proud of their black origin, being black is to struggle daily for their rights and that requires harder work. It is inferred, therefore, that the university is inclusive and it developed their racial and class awareness, although this was an unknown path for them and their family, however, there are still challenges to be overcome

It is inferred, therefore, that the university is inclusive and it developed their racial and class awareness, although this was an unknown path for them and their family, however, there are still challenges to be overcomeA natureza deste trabalho está centrada no estudo das expectativas de vida, dos conflitos e das contradições sociais oriundas do racismo e da segregação socioespacial vivenciada pela população negra da cidade de São Paulo, em especial ao jovem negro universitário, estudante de instituições privadas de ensino superior e morador dos bairros periféricos. A cidade de São Paulo apresenta-se cindida de forma esquematizada, com um núcleo rico composto eminentemente por indivíduos brancos, localizado na porção sudoeste da cidade e que desenvolve o papel de centro dinâmico econômico e social. Ao redor desse centro vive uma população composta na sua maioria por indivíduos pobres e negros. Dessa cisão sociourbana denota-se a questão raça e classe, a produção do outro e do diferente. É aqui que se localiza esta pesquisa, cujo estudo se norteia a partir de questionamentos como: Os alunos das universidades privadas amplificam a sua consciência racial e buscam formação no ensino superior apenas por uma perspectiva econômica? Quem são esses jovens e quais são suas expectativas, quais são os seus conflitos e dificuldades? A universidade é inclusiva ou é um espaço de brancos? A universidade representa a cisão da cidade de São Paulo? A importância desta investigação situa-se no fato do aumento significativo de negros nas universidades brasileiras nos últimos vinte anos por meio de diversas políticas públicas, o que, provavelmente, produziu uma geração de jovens negros que compreendem melhor o seu espaço de luta. A metodologia de pesquisa concentra-se em quatro entrevistas não estruturadas e uma amostra composta por 225 questionários aplicados a alunos negros de instituições privadas de ensino superior (duas em particular são comunitárias, a PUC-SP e a Fundação Cásper Líbero) da cidade de São Paulo. As universidades estão separadas em dois tipos: as universidades populares, que se posicionam como commodities e praticam mensalidades menores, e as elitizadas, que se diferenciam e cobram preços mais elevados. A análise dos dados permitiu, dentre outras questões, descrever o perfil da amostra, comparar dados e informações entre os alunos dos dois tipos de instituições e dos alunos participantes e não participantes de movimentos sociais, além de cruzar essas informações com aquelas obtidas nas entrevistas não estruturadas. De forma sintética, os alunos reconhecem que sofrem racismo, mas sentem orgulho das suas origens negras, pois, para eles, ser negro é lutar cotidianamente por direitos. Além disso, sabem que precisam se esforçar mais do que os não negros. Infere-se, portanto, que a universidade é inclusiva e desenvolveu a consciência de raça e classe, embora fosse um território desconhecido para eles e suas famílias, contudo, ainda há desafios a serem vencidosCoordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESapplication/pdfhttp://tede2.pucsp.br/tede/retrieve/49863/Rogerio%20Tineu.pdf.jpgporPontifícia Universidade Católica de São PauloPrograma de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Ciências SociaisPUC-SPBrasilFaculdade de Ciências SociaisSegregação socioespacialRacismoDesigualdade socioeconômicaSocio-spacial segregationRacismSocioeconomic inequalityCNPQ::CIENCIAS SOCIAIS APLICADASOs jovens negros e universitários moradores da periferia da cidade de São Paulo: expectativas, conflitos e contradiçõesThe young black college students living on the outskirts of São Paulo: expectations, conflicts and contraditionsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da PUC_SPinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP)instacron:PUC_SPTEXTRogerio Tineu.pdf.txtRogerio Tineu.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain525850https://repositorio.pucsp.br/xmlui/bitstream/handle/22448/4/Rogerio%20Tineu.pdf.txta8b9eb4304d9243ba6892d191e5a0321MD54LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
