The Family has always been an institute present in human societies, regardless of how they were formed. The first proof of this is the indispensability of the biological bond that people need to exist. It turns out that, over the years and phases lived in humanity, the concepts of Family have expanded beyond the strictly natural, increasing the understanding about something so fundamental in the life and development of human beings. In practice, more and more people began to want and live various realities that they desired for their individual existence, in various fields, as a manifestation of their autonomy of will. This reflected directly on family compositions, which no longer restricted themselves to the traditional concept. The result of this has been and continues to be the presence of multiple family designs in societies, especially in contemporary Brazil, all caused by the individual desire of each person to make their life freely, as they see fit for themselves, and not only with based on social standards - which often do not reflect the reality of that person (s), and therefore, in addition to not safeguarding their rights, hurt them directly. Therefore, from the general analysis of these situations, based on law, doctrine and jurisprudence, this paper aims to analyze the reasons that led people to seek and effectively change their life and family forms, such as the autonomy of the will, as well as how to examine the results generated by all this, especially on the basis of contemporaneity, which is the period when the true Family can best be studied
