Resumo: Background: Health related quality of life (QoL) comprises aspects associated with health condition e how it affects the daily life of the individual and his family members. There are several generic tools to evaluate patient’s QoL, but few are specific for family members. There is a need for an instrument that assesses not only the patient in question, but also the entire support network, which must be accounted for during care planning. The Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) is a questionnaire which assesses the impact on the family member’s QoL and has not been translated, culturally adapted and validated to Brazilian Portuguese. Objectives: To translate to Brazilian Portuguese, culturally adapt and validate the Family Life Quality Index (FDLQI) instrument. Methods: Methodological, transversal and prospective study. Upon authorization from the author of the original English instrument, the translation and cultural (linguistic) adaptation steps to Brazilian Portuguese of the questionnaire FDLQI were performed. The translated version (FDLQI-BRA) was submitted to content validation, internal consistency analysis, dimensionality and validated in a sample of family members and patients from the the São Paulo State University dermatology outpatient clinic and researcher’s private clinic, from April 2019 to June 2020. Results: One hundred eleven questionnaires from family members of patients with dermatological diseases were studied. The data were analyzed to study the content validity, internal consistency (0.855), factorial structure and the dimensionality of the construct. There was significant temporal stability and the scores had significant decrease in the sensitivity to change in the evaluation step. The sample consisted of a majority of female family members, mothers, adults, with a higher or intermediate education level. The FDLQI-BRA internal consistency and unidimensionality was confirmed. In the correlation study, all items have shown a good correlation with the total FDLQI-BRA score. Conclusion: The FDLQI was translated and culturally adapted to Brazilian Portuguese and proved to be a valid instrument to assess the impact on the quality of life of family members of patients with dermatological diseases

Conclusion: The FDLQI was translated and culturally adapted to Brazilian Portuguese and proved to be a valid instrument to assess the impact on the quality of life of family members of patients with dermatological diseasesFundamentos: Qualidade de vida (QV) relacionada à doença compreende as dimensões associadas a condições de saúde e como essas afetam a vida cotidiana do indivíduo e seus familiares. Objetivos: Traduzir para o português do Brasil, adaptar cultural e validar o instrumento Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI).
