Resumo: This study aimed to analyze the contribution of Popular Education for health promotion of the elderly in the community context, from practices in University Extension, based on the experience of the Project People's Education and Care for the Family (PEPASF) Health as a qualitative research dialogical and dialectical perspective. The setting of the research was to Mary of Nazareth Community, located in the city of Jo?o Pessoa - Paraiba. Participated in the survey, seniors, teachers, students PEPASF, former extension workers and professionals from the Family Community Health Strategy. Data collection was conducted between September 2010 and May 2013, by using techniques of participant observation, interviews and documents. The material was subjected to the dialogical analysis, identifying units of meaning, which originated two categories how to care involved with four subcategories: the reality of the elderly as a starting point of care, dialogue as a means of carrying care, the stimulus and enhancement of the autonomy and empowerment of the elderly and working in networks, and the implications of it in the lives of the elderly, with four subcategories: self-care , autonomy and empowerment of the elderly: new positions in the face of life situations; deal with the finiteness of life, well being, health as evidenced flowering process and renewal of life. The study allowed for consideration of the appreciation of the context of life of the elderly as an important element as the starting point of the work in Health and dialogue proved element trigger mode carefully developed with the elder, for encouragement and enhancement of autonomy and their empowerment. The network action proved to be instrumental in addressing and dealing with the diversity and complexity of the issues experienced by the elderly. Important aspects were highlighted: learning self-care, empowerment and autonomy of the elderly in their family and community context, pointing to the emancipatory aspect of care. We conclude that dialogue, as advocated by the People's Education, proved to be essential for facilitating the promotion of health and active aging.

Sa?de da Fam?lia (PEPASF), como pesquisa qualitativa realizada numa perspectiva dial?gica e dial?tica. O cen?rio da investiga??o foi a Comunidade Maria de Nazar?, localizada no Munic?pio de Jo?o Pessoa Para?ba. Participaram da pesquisa, idosos, docentes, estudantes do PEPASF, ex-extensionistas e profissionais da Estrat?gia de Sa?de da Fam?lia da comunidade. A coleta de dados foi realizada entre setembro de 2010 e maio de 2013, mediante utiliza??o de t?cnicas de observa??o participante, entrevista e documentos. O material foi submetido ? an?lise dial?gica, identificando as unidades de significados, que originaram duas categorias o modo de cuidado envolvido, com quatro subcategorias: a realidade do idoso como ponto de partida do cuidado, o di?logo como via de realiza??o do cuidado, o est?mulo e valoriza??o da autonomia e do empoderamento do idoso e atua??o em rede; e as implica??es dele na vida dos idosos, com quatro subcategorias: auto-cuidado; autonomia e o empoderamento do idoso: novas posturas frente ?s situa??es de vida; lidar com a finitude da vida; o bem estar, a sa?de evidenciada como processo de florescimento e renova??o da vida. O estudo possibilitou considera??es sobre a valoriza??o do contexto de vida do idoso como elemento importante como ponto de partida do trabalho em Sa?de e o di?logo mostrou-se elemento disparador do modo de cuidado desenvolvido com a pessoa idosa. O incentivo e a valoriza??o da autonomia e do empoderamento do idoso foi considerado como aspecto fundamental para favorecer o envelhecimento ativo. A atua??o em rede demonstrou ser fundamental para enfrentar e lidar com a diversidade e complexidade das quest?es vivenciadas pelos idosos. Aspectos importantes evidenciados foram: o aprendizado do autocuidado, autonomia e empoderamento do idoso no seu contexto familiar e comunit?rio, apontando para o aspecto emancipat?rio do cuidado.
