Resumo: | Analyzing the ethical works of Peter Abelard, i.e., Ethica or Scito te Ipsum and Collationes or Dialogus inter Philosophum, Iudaeum et Christianum, it can be said that the Palatine contemplates both the general (theoretical) and particular Ethical orders: his ethical thinking implies a complete analysis in a systematical order. It can be also said that Abelard relied heavily both on the thinkers of the Greek-Roman philosophical tradition, including Aristotle and the Stoics, and on the thinkers of the Christian tradition, among whom Augustine. Departing from this conjunction, Abelard adopts the stoic thesis of the moral indifference of acts to affirm that agent’s intention (intentio) is the only criterion for moral determination. Beyond that, he adopts as the best habit of the soul the Aristotelian notion of virtue, only reached by a great effort and constancy of action. Notwithstanding, this notion seems to contradict moral indifference of acts: despite how great or constant might be the effort to act in a way, this act itself will never be moral per se. This shows how problematic can be the assimilation of traditions assumed by Abelard: stablishing “charity”, source of all virtues, as the fundamental law for moral experience, Abelard interiorizes morality in the individual conscience or mind. In such way, the Aristotelian notion of virtue has nothing but an authoritative value in Abelard’s argument, while charity becomes the good intention that, through the judgment of reason, estimates the divine will and decides to follow it. Therefore, while Stoic moral interiorization presupposes an Ethic in which the virtue’s meaning and purpose is outside the virtue itself, Abelard internalizes moral life in an individual consciousness, in which charity has its purpose and meaning according to its inner decision about following God's will. In such way, charity as good intention and moral criterion contrasts then current penitential practices, whose objectivity of action was the main basis for both the determination of what’s moral or guilty and the imputations of punishment. |

In such way, charity as good intention and moral criterion contrasts then current penitential practices, whose objectivity of action was the main basis for both the determination of what’s moral or guilty and the imputations of punishment.Por meio da análise das obras éticas de Pedro Abelardo, a saber, Ethica ou Scito te Ipsum e Collationes ou Dialogus inter philosophum, Iudaeum et Christianum, pode-se afirmar que o Palatino contemplou tanto a ordem geral (teórica), quanto a ordem particular da Ética, ou seja, seu pensamento ético implica uma análise completa em ordem sistemática. Pode-se afirmar, ainda, que Abelardo se apoiou tanto nos pensadores da tradição filosófica greco-romana, dentre os quais Aristóteles e os estoicos, quanto nos pensadores da tradição cristã, dentre os quais Agostinho. A partir dessa conjunção, Abelardo adota a tese estoica da indiferença moral dos atos para afirmar que a intenção (intentio) do agente é o único critério para a determinação moral. Além disso, adota como melhor hábito da alma a noção aristotélica de virtude, a qual é alcançada à custa de muito esforço e da constância da ação: noção esta que aparentemente contradiz a indiferença moral dos atos, pois por maior e mais constante que seja o esforço para agir de certo modo, um ato jamais será moral por si mesmo. Dessa forma, a assimilação das tradições das quais Abelardo se valeu mostra-se problemática, de modo que se parte da hipótese de que Abelardo tomou a noção aristotélica de virtude apenas com valor autoritativo e não como fundamento, pois o que se observa é que o Palatino promoveu a interiorização da moral na consciência do indivíduo, sobretudo a partir da concepção de que a caridade, fonte de todas as virtudes, é a lei fundamental para a vivência moral. A caridade outra coisa não é senão a intenção boa que consiste na decisão em fazer a vontade de Deus por meio do julgamento da razão, que estima ser o que é a vontade divina. Assim, enquanto a interiorização da moral, realizada pelos estoicos, remete a uma ética na qual a virtude encontra finalidade e sentido fora de si mesma, Abelardo, por sua vez, interioriza a vida moral na consciência do indivíduo, na qual a caridade tem sua finalidade e sentido enquanto decisão interior de fazer a vontade de Deus. Assim, a caridade como intenção boa e critério moral, se contrapõe à prática penitencial vigente, que privilegiava a objetividade da ação tanto na determinação da moralidade e da culpabilidade como na imputação das penas.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Amazonas (FAPEAM)FAPEAM: 2914/2010porUniversidade Federal de São CarlosCâmpus São CarlosPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Filosofia - PPGFilUFSCarPedro AbelardoÉticaIntençãoConsciênciaCaridadePeter AbelardEthicsIntentionConscienceCharityCIENCIAS HUMANAS::FILOSOFIA::HISTORIA DA FILOSOFIAIntencionalidade, consciência e caridade nas obras éticas de Pedro AbelardoIntentionality, conscience and charity in the ethical works of Peter Abelardinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisOnlineinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFSCARinstname:Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCAR)instacron:UFSCARLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
