Resumo: The variability in agricultural work makes it difficult to be described without considering the complexity of it. Workers in tomato harvesting make the selection of the fruit distinguishing which tomatoes are suitable for harvest, which are not matured yet and which should be discarded, identifying the causes of defects and irregularities. These workers know the quality parameters without having any formal training. This knowledge is fundamental to regulate the strategies of these workers and should be enriched. This research shows a two-year period of immersion in the context of agriculture along with these workers, in order to analyze the importance of tacit knowledge involved in agricultural practice, understanding how this knowledge acquired in practice serve as the basis for all practical labor. As methodology, our study used ergonomics to understand the work of tomato pickers and identify how their knowledge guide the selection of the fruit for harvest. A multiple case study was conducted in three farms through the perspective of ergonomics. We used free observations through semi-structured interview and analysis of the speeches of workers to identify how this knowledge is transmitted and its importance. Our results show that workers must build a mental map, a reference in their mind of how a proper fruit look alike to be harvested. This representation brings several sensorial information that make them choose the fruit through its various features. Even without having received any formal training, the features identified in the fruit are the same listed in formal classification documents. It was noticed that although tacit knowledge is difficult to verbalize, women were able to express in a wider range of words the characteristics of the fruit that guided their actions. Learning of workers is intrinsically related to existing cooperation at work, as they teach each other in mutual aid during the execution of the harvest. For future work, we suggest other studies from ergonomics perspective, suggesting a work transformation to facilitate the sharing of knowledge of these workers.

Os trabalhadores da colheita do tomate, fruto de grande importância econômica no Brasil, selecionam os frutos através do tato e da visão colhendo aqueles que atingem os padrões de qualidade necessários. Ao descartar os frutos, os trabalhadores ainda identificam as causas dos defeitos e atuam preventivamente, junto ao produtor, para que os demais frutos não apresentem essas irregularidades. Esses trabalhadores precisam visualizar o fruto, saber os parâmetros de qualidade, identificar seus aspectos, pensar a respeito e, por fim, fazer escolhas. Esses saberes são fundamentais para regular as estratégias desses trabalhadores e devem ser valorizados no âmbito do trabalho. A presente pesquisa mostra o contexto da agricultura pela perspectiva da ergonomia, com o objetivo de analisar os saberes tácitos dos trabalhadores, compreendendo a importância desses saberes adquiridos na prática em toda prática laboral desses trabalhadores. Como metodologia, utilizou-se a análise ergonômica do trabalho para compreender o trabalho dos colhedores de tomate e identificar como seus saberes guiam a escolha do fruto para a colheita. Foi conduzido um estudo de caso em três propriedades agrícolas através da perspectiva da Ergonomia. Utilizamos observações livres, entrevista através de roteiro semiestruturado e análise dos discursos dos trabalhadores da colheita manual do tomate para identificar em suas verbalizações como esses saberes se mostravam para selecionar o tomate. Nossos resultados mostram que os trabalhadores devem construir um mapa mental, uma referência em sua mente do que é um fruto adequado para ser colhido. Essa representação é criada através de diversas informações multissensoriais, que fazem com que o trabalhador escolha o fruto através de suas diversas características. Mesmo sem terem recebido qualquer treinamento formal, as características identificadas no fruto são as mesmas listadas em documentos formais de classificação. Percebeu-se que embora o conhecimento tácito seja de difícil verbalização, as mulheres conseguiram expressar em uma maior gama de palavras as características do fruto que guiavam suas ações. O aprendizado dos trabalhadores esta intrinsecamente relacionado a cooperação existente no trabalho, pois uns ensinam os outros em auxilio mutuo durante a execução da própria colheita.
