Resumo: Introduction: People diagnosed with chronic renal failure need to undergo a hemodialysis program and are dependent on prolonged and painful treatment to survive, with limitations and changes that affect their life and that of their family.Study Object: Feelings experienced by people undergoing treatment of hemodialysis. Research question: How do people with chronic renal failure experience their feelings about hemodialysis? Objective of the investigation: To understand the feelings experienced by people with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis. Method: It is a study of phenomenological approach under the light of the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty's perception. It was developed at the Institute of Nephrology and Dialysis in the city of Salvador, Bahia, in the year 2017, after the project was evaluated according to CAAE n? 62441516.7.0000.0053 and approved n? 1,884,353 by the Ethics and Research Committee of the State University of Feira de Santana. Twelve people on hemodialysis treatment participated in the study. Participants responded to an instrument for collecting socioeconomic and cultural data and a phenomenological interview. The findings were analyzed according to the proposal of Martins and Bicudo, ideographic and normothetical analysis. Results: Feeling units and sense constituents emerged: Experiencing feelings in hemodialysis treatment: Suffering from hemodialysis, Waiting for changes, Experiencing the good side of hemodialysis; Facing the hemodialysis treatment: Coming into hemodialysis, Denying the disease and treatment, Accepting hemodialysis, Fighting for life, Meeting the rules of hemodialysis; Losing freedom on hemodialysis: Surviving through hemodialysis, imprisoning hemodialysis and isolating himself. They were unveiled: suffering, dread, sadness, depression, pain and fear. Dependence on survival has been revealed as a treatment that imprisons being. However, they also expressed good feelings such as hope, faith and gratitude. The chronic illness causes the being-in-the-world to have to relearn to live, immersed in a world that challenges him to incorporate in his life the new possibilities of existing from the beginning of the treatment. Concluding the study: It is understood that the feelings experienced by people on hemodialysis treatment are dichotomous in regard to treatment and the way of being-in-the-world. Contributions: Proposal of the formation of a support group for people undergoing hemodialysis, with the participation of family members, companions and health staff and construction of a guide to assist in the formation of this group.
