This work aims to carry out analysis and interpretation of the play, written by Hilda Hilst, O Verdugo (1969). We intend to perform the reading in question, noting the allegorical aspect that covers the whole of the dramaturgical work of that author, as escape route to the censors of military dictatorship, after the term of the AI-5. Traversing an overview of the Brazilian drama of the 60’s and culminating in notions of modern drama, we can say that Hilda Hilst approaches an aesthetic paradigm, which, although set in the traditional way, breaks with the traditional paradigm in its content, which Peter Szondi analyzed in his book about modern drama. Moreover, there is in this work a connection between your writing and an expressionist way to position their characters in a world that is in the process of decay. On the other hand, the author leads us to consider the utopia/dystopia in that drama, with clear intentions to incite reflection and reassessment of posture of humanity: basic theme of Hilda Hilst proposes a call to revolution. We will see to what extent the play can be considered an allegory of revolution, and, referring to a more immediate historical context, can be considered a mimetic presentation of the Hilda Hilst’s indignation about brazilian military regime, calling the people to show "the bug guy" for the "respect" and can reach your "bird flight" on their freedom. It is used as a basic text for the treatment of Allegory the thought of Walter Benjamin’s The Origin of German Tragic Drama, which also deals with this tragic hero, with messianic purposes, the redemption of mankind annihilated by their own greed.
