It is a research focused on the discussions about memory and the experiences lived, during the cultural practices of the “Novena de Terno” and the “coco” (afro Brazilian popular rhythm and dance manifestation) in the city of Queimadas-PB. Based on the work of several researchers of the Brazilian popular culture, it was approached questions pertinent to some methodologies applied in some specific studies of popular culture and orality in Brazil, especially in the twentieth century, in order to foment the debate on the records of the oral patrimony, with emphasis on the “coco”. Through the cross-fertilization between the seized methodologies and the performance studies, some social and historical factors that conditioned the presence of the “Novena de Terno” suit, the “coco” and the creation of the group “Samba de Coco Mestre Zé Zuca” in this study were contextualized a descriptive analysis and a performative script of the “Novena de Terno de S~o Sebasti~o”, in the yard of Seu Jaime and Dona Euzinete - Sítio Verdes, in view of the registration and cultural memory of that place.
