The objective of this work is to draw up a comparative study between the municipalities of Areial and Montadas/PB based on the Sustainable Cities Development Index. To this end, the method proposed is the use of research with a quantitative approach and exploratory and descriptive objectives, taking as a starting point the bibliographical and documentary survey on the evolution of the concept of sustainable development and on the most recent sustainability indicators applied to municipal level. Next, research was carried out on the Cities' Sustainable Development Index of the studied municipalities, in order to verify their performance in the sustainable development ranking. Finally, a cluster analysis was carried out, grouping the municipalities into clusters. The results of the cluster analysis revealed that the municipalities of Areial and Montadas were grouped into distinct clusters, suggesting significant differences in their sustainable development profiles. This distinction in clusters can provide valuable insights for the formulation of public policies targeted at each municipality, considering their specific needs and challenges. As a result, it is possible to conclude that municipalities can develop actions and mutual inspiration aimed at developing public policies that allow progress towards the objectives intended by the 2030 Agenda.
