The current study seeks to contribute to an analysis of the phenomena of fear and violence, in their intimate and reciprocal relationship, from a perspective of the contestatory actions of collective subjects in a context of routinized violence, notably military occupations. Two territories are highlighted for this analysis: the West Bank, Palestine and Favelas from Maré, in Rio de Janeiro. The common imagery of fear and violence in these territories works in very similar ways, in contrast to that of carioca asphalt and Israeli streets. The routinization of the phenomenon of violence, naturalized it, inasmuch as it was the only mediation used by its oppressors. In this sense, insurgency actions - contestations in general - are characterized by another degree of courage, use of violence and relation with fear. We propose, therefore, to disentangle these phenomena, seeking to understand the processes of constitution of the subjectivities of the insurgent collective subjects, as well as the image (stigma) attributed to them by the hegemonic order, on one hand. On the other hand, we will present as basis the repressive actions of the State in capitalism, considering the permanence of colonial violence in modernity. With this, we will emphasize the asymmetries of violence in its relationship with fear. Finally, we highlight our hypothesis that specular relations are constituted between antagonistic political expressions, which, under a common imaginary, end up reproducing notions that, at first, were reject as ideology.
